My reflections on Andela’s EPIC values

The word epic habitually is reserved for great stories or describing how exciting something is, but when I started applying for Andela’s fellowship I found out that EPIC stands for something much more greater.

In Andela EPIC is an acronym that stands for Excellence, Passion, Integrity, and Collaboration. EPIC also marks the backbone or stronghold of the Andela, and I would like to share with you my reflections on Andela’s core values (EPIC values).

Excellence (The E in “EPIC”)

When I was young I was taught that my excellency is measured by how much I was better than others. It was more of a competition than the completion of oneself. When I started applying to Andela it’s when I learned that excellency is being the best version of you and giving the best you can give on give, and all of this aligns with the ability to be able to upgrade to your best self and open to learning new things. In short excellency rhymes with being the best You and not allowing you to have a fixed mindset and be open to improving yourself

Passion (The P in “EPIC”)

Passion is also found in Andela’s EPIC values. I believe that passion is the key to excellency. To me, passion and love are almost the same things, for you can’t be passionate about something which you don’t love. To me, passion goes with the reason why I am doing something and how much I love it. when you are passionate about a thing, no alarm clock needed for your passion wakes you up, you wake up every morning with the hunger of being batter and you set goals. I believe that if you want to excel in a given thing you have to be passionate about it, not just do it but also sleep it, drink it and dream about it in your sleep. passion is a way of walking the talk, the talk is what you say you are going to do and the walk is the effort the work you have to put it

Integrity (The I in “EPIC”)

Integrity is an art of being honest and true to people but most importantly to yourself. If you can be able, to be honest with yourself about things you are good at and think you want to improve in it will be so much easier for you to grow. Respect, being responsible, accountability and many more attributes go with integrity. being respectful regardless of how much your better than another person or how many mistakes they made also it is also good to treat people unconditionally but still have principles that align with being ethical.

Goodness is about character — integrity, honesty, kindness, generosity, moral courage, and the like. More than anything else, it is about how we treat other people.

Collaboration (The C in “EPIC)

I believe that collaboration is the key to sharing knowledge and learning for each other through feedbacks, opinions or sharing content that you think may help others to complete the task your working on it improves the way they do thinks. I believe that alone You can accomplish little but together(with other people) you can do much more.
